Louisiana Paycheck Calculator
Louisiana passed one of the most significant state tax reforms in its history in late 2024, replacing its graduated income tax (which topped out at 4.25%) with a flat 3% rate on all income over $12,500 starting in 2025. For 2026, Louisiana workers pay 3% on taxable income above $12,500, with the first $12,500 entirely exempt from state income tax. This reform makes Louisiana notably more competitive with neighboring Texas (no income tax) and Tennessee (no income tax).
New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and all Louisiana municipalities have no local income taxes. The flat 3% state rate is the only sub-federal income tax on Louisiana wages. Louisiana has no SDI program.
Louisiana follows federal adjusted gross income with modifications. Pre-tax 401(k) contributions reduce Louisiana taxable income. Louisiana also eliminated several deductions and credits under the 2024 reform package in exchange for the lower flat rate. The standard deduction under the new system is $12,500 (single) / $25,000 (MFJ), which is the amount exempt before the 3% rate applies.
