Screen Cleaner

Disable touch input and cycle high-contrast backgrounds to safely clean dust and smudges off any display.

What it does

Touch Input Lock

During cleaning mode, touch and click events are blocked so wiping the screen does not accidentally open apps, move the mouse, or trigger buttons.

60-Second Timer

A countdown gives you a structured cleaning window. The display unlocks automatically when time expires, with an audio chime to let you know.

Tri-Color Background Cycle

Automatically cycles between white (reveals oil smudges), black (reveals dust particles), and gray (reveals both simultaneously). Different contamination types are visible against different backgrounds.

Cleaning Guide Built In

Before and after cleaning mode, the tool shows safe cleaning method instructions: which cloths and liquids to use, and what to avoid to prevent damage.

Any Device Compatible

Works on touchscreen monitors, tablet screens, laptop displays, and TV screens. The touch-lock is especially useful for touchscreen devices where a cloth swipe would otherwise register as input.

How to use Screen Cleaner

  1. 1
    Read the cleaning guide

Review the displayed instructions: use a dry or slightly dampened microfiber cloth, never spray liquid directly on the screen, avoid paper towels and alcohol on OLED/glossy screens.

  2. 2
    Prepare your cloth

Get a clean, lint-free microfiber cloth. For stubborn smudges, barely dampen one corner with distilled water (never tap water or cleaning solutions on OLED).

  3. 3
    Start cleaning mode

Click "Start Cleaning" — the screen cycles to white/black/gray and touch is disabled for 60 seconds.

  4. 4
    Wipe the screen

Use gentle circular motions or horizontal strokes. The changing background colors will guide you to any remaining spots.

  5. 5
    Wait for the chime

When the 60-second timer ends, the audio chime signals that the screen is unlocked and cleaning is complete.

When to use this

Touchscreen laptop cleaning

Touchscreen laptops are especially difficult to clean because every cloth stroke registers as a touch event. Screen cleaner mode disables touch so you can wipe without accidentally clicking anything.

Office monitor maintenance

IT professionals cleaning multiple workstation monitors can start the cleaner mode, wipe, and move to the next monitor — the audio chime signals completion without needing to look at the screen.

Finding hidden contamination

Open the white background to spot oily fingerprints, then switch to black to find dust particles. The cycle mode alternates automatically so you can see every type of contamination.

Kids tablet or classroom displays

Children's devices accumulate fingerprints and smudges rapidly. The cleaning tool makes it safe to hand the device to someone else for wiping without worrying about accidental taps opening apps or making purchases.

The Right Way to Clean Different Screen Types

Glossy LCD screens are the most forgiving — they tolerate mild cleaning solutions and are easy to clean because smudges are obvious and the glass surface is durable. Matte screens have an anti-glare coating that is more delicate; excessive moisture or abrasion can permanently haze the coating. OLED screens have the most sensitive coatings and require the most care — distilled water on a microfiber cloth is the safest approach.

The most common screen cleaning mistake is using paper products (paper towels, tissue). Despite feeling soft, paper fibers are significantly harder than display coatings and will cause microscopic scratches over time that accumulate into a permanent haze.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the safest way to clean an OLED screen?

For OLED screens (found in premium phones, OLED TVs, and some laptops like the LG Gram): use only a dry microfiber cloth for dust, or a very lightly dampened (distilled water only) cloth for smudges. Never use alcohol, ammonia-based cleaners (like Windex), or paper products. The anti-reflective coating on OLED panels is extremely sensitive to solvents.

Can I use screen cleaning spray?

Yes, if it is specifically formulated for display screens (alcohol-free, ammonia-free). Spray it onto the cloth, never directly onto the screen. For most routine cleaning, a dry microfiber cloth is sufficient and carries zero risk of damage.

Why does my screen still look streaky after cleaning?

Streaks usually mean one of three things: the cloth is dirty or has residue from a previous cleaning product; you applied too much moisture; or you are cleaning against the light direction — try wiping in one direction with the room light behind you to see if streaks remain.

Does the touch lock work on all devices?

The touch lock uses CSS touch-action: none and prevents default touch events. This works on most touchscreen browsers. On some devices, system-level gestures (swipe from edge to go back, swipe down for notifications) may still trigger. These operate at the OS level below the browser.

Why cycle through different background colors?

Different types of contamination are visible against different backgrounds. Oily fingerprints appear most clearly against a bright white background where they create a slightly glossy patch. Fine dust particles show up best against black where they appear as tiny bright specks. A mid-gray background reveals both types simultaneously.

Is it safe to use rubbing alcohol on my monitor?

On LCD/IPS panels with a matte or glossy glass coating: 70% isopropyl alcohol diluted to 50% or less is usually safe in small amounts on a cloth. On OLED displays, avoid alcohol entirely as it can damage the anti-reflective coating. When in doubt, use distilled water only.
