Random Drawing Prompt Generator
Generate random drawing prompts that combine an everyday object with a style and a constraint. Lock any segment, re-roll the rest. Built for daily art practice — Inktober-style 31-day challenge included.
What it does
Three-segment combiner
[Object] + [style] + [constraint]. 400+ objects · 30 hand-curated styles · 25 hand-curated constraints.
Per-segment lock and re-roll
Lock the segments you like. Re-roll only the unlocked segments to refine the prompt without losing what works.
31-Day Drawing Challenge
31 hand-picked objects, one per day, available year-round. Today defaults to the current date in October. Local progress tracking with JSON export and import.
Style library
Watercolour, blind contour, isometric, art nouveau, pixel art, cross-hatch, low-poly, ukiyo-e woodblock, sumi-e ink wash, riso two-tone, silhouette, and more.
Constraint library
In 60 seconds. Without lifting the pen. With your non-dominant hand. Using only triangles. From memory. Upside-down. As if drawn by a child. As a flat icon.
How to use Random Drawing Prompt Generator
- 1Press Generate
You get an object, a style, and a constraint as a single drawing prompt.
- 2Lock segments you like
Tap the lock on object, style, or constraint. Locked segments stay; the rest re-roll.
- 3Draw it
Pen, tablet, sticky note — the prompt is one short sentence you can read and start.
- 4Open the 31-Day Challenge
Show the challenge grid for a deterministic prompt per day, with locally-saved progress.
When to use this
Daily art practice
Open the page each morning, lock "in 60 seconds" as the constraint, and re-roll the object until something feels good. One minute later, you have a sketch.
Sketchbook warm-up
Lock the style as "blind contour", press Re-roll three times, and warm up the eye-to-hand connection before serious work.
October challenge
Open the 31-Day Challenge in October. Each day pre-selects an object. Lock it, re-roll style and constraint until the prompt clicks, draw, mark the day complete.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from a daily-prompt website?
- Most daily-prompt sites give one word per day. This is a combiner: object + style + constraint, all randomised, all individually lockable. You can iterate to a prompt instead of being handed one.
Is the 31-Day Challenge tied to October?
- It's available year-round. In October, the 'Today' button auto-selects the current date. In any other month, the challenge defaults to Day 1 — pick any day you want.
Where is challenge progress stored?
- Locally in your browser's localStorage. You can export the progress as a JSON file and re-import it to back it up or move to another device.
Can I add my own styles or constraints?
- Not yet. The style and constraint libraries are curated. Reach out via the contact link in the footer with suggestions.
Why are some objects greyed out as I re-roll?
- The randomiser excludes the last 30 objects you've seen so consecutive rolls feel fresh. After 30 unique objects, anything is fair game again.
