Stripe supports Interac e-Transfer for B2B payments and Interac Online for consumer transactions in select scenarios, with rates negotiated on a case-by-case basis for higher volumes. Most Canadian Stripe merchants stick with Visa/Mastercard cards as the primary method.
Are Stripe fees subject to GST/HST/QST in Canada?
Stripe processing fees are exempt from GST/HST as a financial service in Canada. You don’t charge or pay GST/HST on the processing fees themselves. Speak to your accountant for province-specific QST or PST treatment.
Can I settle in USD as a Canadian Stripe merchant?
Yes — Canadian merchants can opt for USD settlement, which makes sense if most of your revenue comes from US customers (avoids the currency conversion fee on inbound USD payments). The trade-off is converting to CAD when paying domestic Canadian expenses, which incurs FX cost on the bank-side.
